No fewer than 10 persons were killed while several others sustained injuries on Wednesday in sectarian clashes in two villages in Plateau State.
In the first incident, the body of a man, said to be middle-aged, was discovered around Wase area, in Wase Local Government Area of the state.
The body, probably of a Taroh man, was said to have provoked reprisal, as nine Fulani men returning from a market were attacked and killed at Wadatan Garga, some few hours later.
In the second incident, a house, belonged to a Fulani man, was attacked at Du district of Jos South Local Government Area, at about 9.15 pm. One person, as been reported, have been killed, while another was injured. However about 45 minutes later, some people were ambushed at Drugline in Ladura Du ward of Du district on their way to Foron in Barakin Ladi Local council. One of the them was killed while the other sustained injuries.
Executive Director of Stefanos Foundation, Mr. Mark Lipdo, gave the name of the dead person as Pam Rwang, while Pam Dalyop was admitted at Vom Christian Hospital.
The incidents followed the destruction of some Improvised Explosive Device, by the bomb disposal unit of the Plateau State Police Command around Gyata Gere area of Zarmangada, in Jos South Local Government on Wednesday.
Chairman of Transition Committee of Wase Local Council, Alhaji Zakari Mohammed, who confirmed the Wadatan Garga incident, said about 50 soldiers had been dispatched to the area to ascertain the situation and restore peace to the restive spot and its environs.
He said the cause of the clashes had not been ascertained. He, however, assured the people that the situation would be restored to normalcy as soon as possible.
Special Task Force spokesman, Salisu Mustapha, who also confirmed the incidents, however, said he had yet to be briefed.
Meanwhile, to ensure a hitch-free Eid-el-Maulud in Jos and its environs, the STF in Jos said security operatives would provide security at central mosque and strategic areas of the state throughout the celebration.
