Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will convene a stakeholders’ meeting in December to validate its ongoing strategic planning.
The aim is to ensure a free and fair election in line with international standards.
The chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, stated this when a team of United States-based International Foundation for Electoral System led by its President and CEO, Mr. Williams Sweeney jr, visited him on Monday in Abuja.
He said, “We have started preparation for 2015 and we have started our strategic planning process. We have done the organisation process, which we have virtually completed and we are about to begin its implementation.
“We have virtually done all the in-house consultations and our hope is that by the first week of December, we will be able to have what we call stakeholders’ input for the validation of the strategic planning.
“By the time we enter 2013, we will start the process of implementing the plan and we will be doing that two years before the election.”
Earlier, the IFES CEO said the visit was to assist INEC in developing democracy in Nigeria.
