LG Embarks on N220m Road Project

Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, has embarked on the construction of four major roads to accelerate development in the council.

A statement by the council on Sunday said the projects would be financed with N220m bank loan. The roads are Jubril Olabisi, Nurudeen Obe, Rainbow and Double Star.

The council Chairman, Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the projects were in fulfillment of his promise to residents of the council that road development would be given serious attention.

Bamigbetan said, “In order to meet the aspiration of the people on road development, we decided to go the extra mile of obtaining bank loan which initially wasN550m for the construction of 10 major roads.

“However, the state government, after going through the council’s financial profile, gave its approval for the procurement of N220m loan to construct the four roads.

“This is a step in a right direction. Many states in the country are now going for loan or bond to execute capital projects because of their lean resources.”

The council boss assured the residents that the roads would be constructed to meet the standard specified by the state government, which include the provision of walk ways for pedestrians on both sides of the roads and provision of concrete drainage channels to allow for free flow of water.

Bamigbetan said the contractors handling the projects would spend two months to complete them, urging the residents to cooperate with them to enable them deliver the job as scheduled.

He said, “We are the direct beneficiaries of the roads and as such we should make it a point of duty to monitor the construction and report any lapses observed to the council.”
