Kaduna Flood Victims Still Await FG’s Aid

Six months after over 5,000 residents of Kaduna state were displaced by flood disaster, the victims are yet to get any assistance from the federal government.

It would be recalled that a total of 5,254 persons from 17 local government areas of the state were affected by last year flood disaster, while six people were reported dead.

The state has received federal government grant of N400 million, while the flood disaster committee in the state has received federal government relief contributions of food items to augment that of the state. But the victims are yet to get any assistance.

Member representing Zonkwa in the state house of assembly during the ministerial budget defence yesterday decried the delay in distribution of relief materials to the victims saying that such issues deserve quick action.

"There are some things that need to be fast tracked so as to save and help victims out of their difficult situation, it is not impossible that some of the victims might have even died," he lamented.

The executive secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who is also the secretary of Flood Disaster Committee, Ishaku Dogo Makama, when contacted, said that arrangement for the distribution have been concluded noting that transportation of the items to the 17 local government areas will commence this week while the distribution will commence next week.
