Broad was forced to leave the pitch briefly on Saturday during England's second tour match, but fears about his fitness were eased after scans revealed only bruising on the joint.
The fast bowler, who is the official vice-captain to Alastair Cook in Tests, has been leading the side in the absence of the rested skipper and he elected not to bowl in the morning.
Graham Onions instead partnered James Anderson in the bowling attack and England's management will be hoping that Broad can soon overcome this minor problem as fellow seamer Steven Finn limped out of the opening Tour match with a thigh strain.
An England and Wales Cricket Board text update read: "Scans show Broad has a bruised left heel.
"He is fit to field but won't bowl today. Progress will be monitored over the next couple of days."
Stuart Meaker has been called in as cover for Finn for the final warm-up match in Ahmedabad, against Haryana on Thursday, as long as visa issues can be settled in time for him to fly from England.
