Zamfara State Police Commissioner Akila Usman Gwary yesterday said the armed robbers that killed 20 people at Kabaru village in Maru Local Government Area of the state on Monday were Fulanis.
He said the robbers, numbering about 50, invaded the village, identified their targets and shot dead 20 people.
“It is evidently clear that armed bandits mostly Fulanis infested the thick forest that extended from Kaduna, Kebbi to Zamfara and we are doing all within our power to flush them out,” he said. A survivor, Danladi Adamu, also said:‘They are Fulanis because I heard one of them speak Fulfulde. I believe it was a reprisal attack,” he said.
