Ondo Traditional Ruler Docked For Alleged Rape

A traditional ruler in Ondo State, the Olusupare of Supare, Kasali Adejoro, has been arraigned in a Supare – Akoko Magistrate Court over assault and attempted rape.

The accused was alleged to have committed the offence on May 14, 2012 at about 7 p.m. at the queen’s house along Owode street, Ugbe quarters, Supare –Akoko.

The court was told that Mr. Adejoro assaulted one Comfort Awogbamila by slapping after he attempted to rape her.

According to the charge sheet ,the accused committed the offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 351 and 359 of the criminal Code Cap 37 vol1 of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The plea of the accused person was not taken as he wanted the case to be tried in the State High Court.

The counsel to the accused, Bayo Olorunmeke, asked for the transfer of the case to the High Court.

Mr. Olorunmeke therefore urged the court to release the accused person on bail till the next adjourned date.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Bunmi Olujuyigbe, transferred the case to the High Court and granted the accused person bail. The accused must provide a surety, who must be a first class king; and N100, 000 to enjoy the bail.

The surety must also be a landed property owner within the magisterial district.

The case was adjourned till January 14.
