No fewer than 27 persons were killed in various road accidents in Katsina State in the last quarter of 2012, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Habu Dauda, has said.
Mr. Dauda said in Katsina on Tuesday that 114 others sustained injuries in the road mishaps recorded across the state from October to December. The deaths occurred in 37 accidents and involved 62 vehicles.
"This indicated a slight reduction in the number of road mishaps recorded in the same period in 2011 in the state when 40 accidents were recorded," he said.
The commander expressed concern on road accidents in the state despite the existence of good roads. He, however, attributed the occurrence of accidents mostly to over-speeding, over-loading, wrong over-taking and dangerous driving by drivers in the state. He advised motorists to shun those acts in order to ensure safety on the roads.
