Two students of the FIDEI Polytechnic Gboko in Benue State have been killed by a gang of 10 suspected cultists that entered the institution on reprisal attack.
Cultists had arrived the premises of the polytechnic, located at Atonko Mega Village, along Gboko-Aliade road at about 7pm on Wednesday, shooting sporadically for some minutes.It was gathered that the suspected cultists, who were also students of the school, were armed with sophisticated weapons and had come to the institution on revenge mission.
Sources said that “The cultists are Udam boys from Cross River State and are also students of our polytechnic. But observing that the cultists had killed a student who is a Tiv boy, the residents of the community and motorcyclists popularly called Okada and some other students started violent demonstration and killed a rival ND1 student, who is from Cross River and was suspected to be a member of the gang that killed the Tiv student. In the course of all these, a motorcycle belonging to another student was burnt, though the student was not killed.
Following the incident, the management of FIDEI Polytechnic Gboko has closed down the institution indefinitely, even as movement is restricted around the school community and students ordered to vacate the campus.
