The Nigerian Stock Exchange is pushing further federal government’s drive to attract and retain investments into Nigeria’s economy with its intention to showcase the country’s economic potential at the forthcoming London summer Olympic Games.
To this end, the NSE plans to participate in one of the biggest business-focused event tagged "the African and Caribbean Business Expo" which is expected to hold at Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London during the Olympics.
Expected to last from August 4 to 11, 2012, the expo will feature hundreds of Diaspora-owned businesses in London and NSE plans to showcase more than 20 of Nigeria’s business listed on the market as a way of selling the potential of the country’s economy to investors.
According to the General Manager and Head of Listings, Sales and Retention at NSE, Mrs. Taba Peterside, NSE will exhibit at the expo more than 20 of the country’s top companies.
Peterside was quoted in a statement by the organisers of the expo to have said: "We are extremely excited about coming to London for the African and Caribbean Business Expo. At a time when Africa and Nigeria in particular are attracting so much global business interest, the Expo is a wonderful opportunity for The Nigerian Stock Exchange to showcase itself and a selection of its top listed companies and member stock broking firms.
London is a pre-eminent centre for international commerce and with the event being timed around the summer Olympics, it is a must attend and an opportunity that businesses do not want to miss."
Conceived in direct response to the need for black businesses in London to claim their stake on the business opportunities that the Olympics will present, the expo will bring together leaders in business, senior government officials in the UK and from around the globe as well as international broadcasting and news outlets to a strategic place where ideas and business opportunities and deals would be discussed and tied.
It is hosted by the African and Caribbean Business Experience in association with Courteville Business Solutions and sponsored by the NSE.
The statement reads: "The Expo is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the enormous business opportunities for investment and increased trade in Africa and the Caribbean. It is also a very strategic platform for African and Caribbean businesses to export their trade and find business partners.
"It will also bring culture from Africa and the Caribbean to London. The finest of fashion from Africa will take part in a professional catwalk show, while guests will sample authentic flavours of African cuisine cooked by celebrated chefs. There will be an eclectic fusion of art and lifestyle, with a photography exhibition and gallery of artists from Africa."
