Enyimba Signs Home-Based Eagles Player, Two Others

Aba – Enyimba FC of Aba has reached agreements with two clubs to sign on their three players, ahead of 2012/2013 soccer season, Farrell Allaputa, the team’s Head of Media said on Wednesday.

Allaputa said in an interview in Aba that the players had since arrived in Aba, the `Enyimba city,’ to take up the jobs.

He named the players as Fidelis Saviour of Ranchers Bees FC of Kaduna and Andrew Abalogu and Bright Esieme, both of ABS FC, Ilorin.

Allaputa said the players had agreed to the terms of the contract with Enyimba, the six-time champions of the Nigeria Professional League (NPL), however, subject to the medical tests.

NAN reports that Abalogu was in `great’ form for ABS during the last season, scoring nine goals to help the team to escape relegation, while Saviour was a key member of the home-based Super Eagles.

Allaputa said the team had also recalled its central defender, Ikechukwu Okorie and goalkeeper, Chinenye Okani, who were on loan to Kaduna United and Jigawa Golden Stars, respectively.

Both players were also members of Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles.

The head of media said Enyimba’s transactions at the transfer market were enough indications that the club would be out to chase after trophies in the 2012/2013 season.

“Winning both the Premiership and the Federation Cup this season are tops on our list of priorities.

“By securing the services of such young, bright and talented stars, the club will certainly hit the ground running when their league campaign kicks off in a few weeks,’’ he said.

Enyimba finished fourth in the NPL last season and also ended the season without trophies or continental tickets.

Allaputa said that the team’s Executive Chairman, Felix Anyasi-Agwu and other board members were not leaving anything to chance to ensure that the team performs optimally in the upcoming season. (NAN)
