Owners of the 500-unit Minanuel Housing Estate in Abuja on Tuesday faulted the demolition of their buildings, allegedly on the orders of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Bala Mohammed.
The house owners said demolition constituted a threat to economic development.
According to them, the demolition has put the real estate subsector into chaos as no bank would guarantee any loan facility to any developer in the estate.
They, therefore, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene in the matter by setting up a commission of inquiry to look into the demolition.
The spokesperson of Minaneul Estate Subscribers Union, Mr. Festus Adebayo, at a press briefing on the demolition, added that the action of the FCT Minister would render many Nigerians jobless.
He condemned the statement issued by the FCT administration regarding the estate.
Adebayo said, “We need to start clearly that Minanuel Estate is not in Kyami District, but is located is Gosa, Lugbe Extension 1. But for the purpose of this criminality, the area was re-designed as Kyami District. We wonder why the district will be re-designed even without the knowledge of those that have invested in the area.”
