The Lagos State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has said that the flood disaster ravaging parts of the country is due to failure of most states to account for ecological funds.
President of the Chamber, Mr Goodie Ibru, who spoke at a press conference in Lagos, noted that the recent flood disaster is the worst in the history of the country.
“This experience underscores the need for proper utilisation of the ecological funds which governments collect periodically. From all indications, not many states can properly account for this fund. Yet, the fund was supposed to be used to pre-empt occurrences such as flood,’’ he said.
He emphasised the need for the appropriate authorities to take matters of climate change very seriously and develop quality early warning systems to minimise casualties.
