‘Air Force Better Under Democratic Rule’

‘Air Force Better Under Democratic Rule’

The immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall M.D Umar (Rtd), has said the Air Force received better funding during the recent democratic governments more than under military rule.

Umar, made this known at the weekend, in a valedictory speech during the fly-over parade, organized by the Air Force in commemoration of his retirement as Chief of Air Staff.

He said after the 1980s, “Sadly, the fortune of the service took a nosedive as it was severely underfunded curiously by succession of military regimes.

“Over the course of the last decade however, successions of democratic government have deemed it fit to not only resuscitate the service and its ailing platforms but also to acquire new ones.”

The outgoing Chief said, “The importance of a formidable flying force such as the Nigerian Air force in the face of our current security challenges cannot be over emphasized. Air power as a versatile and multifaceted instrument can be used in defence against aggression, promoting security and supporting people.”
