Governor Jonah David Jang of Plateau State yesterday agreed to pay any striking worker, who resumes work, three months salaries.
A statement by Jang’s director of press, James Mannok, said although the "No work - No pay" law is before the National Industrial Court for interpretation, after due consideration of the on-going strike by local government workers, the governor on compassionate grounds approved the payment of October to December salaries to resuming workers.
The statement urged all local government council workers who are still on strike to take advantage of the gesture and join some of their colleagues who have already done so.
The statement added that the government will comply with the decision of the National Industrial Court on the matter.
When contacted on the development, president of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, Samson Mafuyai, said, "Right now, we are attending a meeting in Abuja with the Minister of Labour and Productivity to reach an agreement on the matter. So I cannot comment on the issue."
