Former Nigeria international, Emmanuel Amuneke has said that the Super Eagles are capable of winning of the next Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
The 1994 African footballer of the year, however, noted that the Super Eagles can only emerge champions if they do the right things before and during the tournament.
"The Super Eagles I must confess have the right mix of players. I have seen the caliber of players in the team and they have all it takes to win the trophy," Amuneke told Goal.com.
"But the preparation is very crucial. They must prepare very well and make sure that they play enough friendly matches before the competition in South Africa.
"It is good they will travel to Faro in Portugal to train, but the [number of] players invited to camp should not be large so that it will be easy to select the final list of players for the tournament.
"Players must report on time to camp and make up their mind that they can go to South Africa to lift the trophy. That means they must also take their training serious.
"Then during the competition proper, the players should realise that no team will play with more than 11 players. They must carry out the instructions of the coaches in every game.
"The players must know what is expected of them. They must not allow the euphoria of the competition to overwhelm them at any time.
"And most importantly, the players must believe in themselves. They must not look inferior to any team or any player.
"Look at the Zambian team in the last Nations Cup. Nobody gave them a chance. They used majority of players plying their trade in Africa, but they believed in themselves and won the trophy.
"So players of the Nigerian national team must not allow anything disturb them. They should focus on the task in South Africa.
"They can win the trophy but they must know what they want and how to go about it," Amuneke said.
The draw of the Cup of Nations will take place on October 24 in South Africa.
