A resident in the area told Daily Trust on phone that "We were outside when a bomb-like deafening sound rent the air. We all scampered for safety but presently we can still hear other explosions and souns of gunfire."
He said that the area is always crowded with traders and prayed for God to limit the number casualties.
The JTF in the state raided a house of suspected boko haram militants on Wednesday following a tip-off that the group had planned to lunch an attack in the town soon.
Details of the incidence are still sketchy as at the time of publishing this report but verification is being gathered and will be made available soon. Yobe State Police Commissioner, Patrick Egbuniwe told Daily Trust that there was difficulty in reaching Potiskum due to network problem.
