A 33-year-old man, Ige Adedeji, on Friday appeared before an Ibadan Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N570,000 under false pretence.

The prosecutor, Cpl. James Oriola, told the court that Adedeji of no fixed address collected the amount from one Olufemi Kumuyi under the guise of selling two cars to him.

He said the accused, however, failed to deliver on his promise of delivering a Rover car and Camry saloon car as promised to the plaintiff.

Oriola said that Adedeji committed the offence between March 4 and March 18, 2011 at Mokola area of Ibadan.

According to him, the offence contravenes section 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, denied committing the offence while his counsel, Adewale Olajire, pleaded with the court to grant him bail.

Senior Magistrate Olaide Amzat granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Amzat ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused while the second surety must be employed with means of identification.

He adjourned the case to Jan. 7, 2013 for hearing.
