THE Ondo State Government has threatened to terminate the contract it awarded for the rehabilitation of the state’s main stadium in Akure should the contractor handling the project renege on the promise to deliver by the end of July 2012.
The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Yekini Olanipekun, said during an inspection tour of the stadium project over the weekend that all necessary money required by the contractor to complete work on the stadium have been paid, wondering why it has become impossible for the contractor to deliver on time.
Olanipekun said what he found on ground during the visit was a far cry from the government’s expectation, adding that the contractor was too slow.
“I am very disappointed with what I am seeing here today,” he said. “All necessary financial commitment that should be met by the government regarding this project has been met. No excuse would be entertained any longer from the contractor.”
The commissioner was, however, satisfied with the quality of materials used for the job done so far at the project site, even as he charged that “quality materials should not be basis for slow pace.”
