The Ogun State Government has discovered an unusual ghost worker in its workforce.

A man, whose mother, a primary school teacher in the State, died over eight months ago, has been collecting his mother’s salary from the state government.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, revealed the fraud on Friday during an interactive session with members of correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Council.

“On investigation we discovered that one of the sons of the deceased was collecting the salaries. Ironically, when asked questions, he said he was collecting the salaries on behalf of his late mother,” Mr. Amosun said.

The governor said the fraud was uncovered during a biometric data carried out in state’s primary schools, adding that the same exercise will be extended to secondary schools soon.

The governor, who did not mention the name of the dead teacher, the school, or the culprit, declared that his government will not fight fraud with kid gloves.

Mr. Amosun also told journalists that allegations that the state government made monthly deductions from the allocation to local governments were false. He challenged anybody, or group, with facts on such allegations to come out with proof of such deductions.

‘On my honour and since I was sworn in as the governor I have not denied them their allocation, and will never. If anybody has such figure, he should bring it out,” Mr. Amosun said. Home Page
