Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the October 20 Ondo State governorship election, Chief Olusola Oke, has accused Governor Olusegun Mimiko of name-dropping to garner votes during the election.
Oke, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Kunle Adebayo, denied that President Goodluck Jonathan and the national PDP leadership were backing Mimiko’s re-election bid.
The statement read in part, “All the outgoing governor is trying to do is to deceive the people by telling them that he has the President’s backing, whereas no such thing exists. We have always said it that all evils and pretence must come to an end one day. This is the last dance by this man who deliberately named his politics after an evil tree.
“After all his mercenaries and fifth columnists have failed in the PDP, after all attempts to hoodwink and manipulate the national leadership of our great party failed, after all the showmanship and grandstanding have lost their colour, it is no surprise that Mimiko is going for the highest price which is the illustrious name of our esteemed President.
“No amount of name- dropping, intimidation and lies can stop the people from doing what is right.
“They know who promised 4,000 jobs in 90 days and failed. They know who promised a N5bn Ore Sunshine megacity plaza having 1,000 capacity trailer park, 200 shops 2,000 residential units, hotels, power plant etc.
“They know who promised N3bn tomato paste factory at Arigidi Akoko, a N13bn motor assembly plant at Bolorunduro, Ondo East, an N8bn Cement factory at Okeluse, an N1.8bn international conference centre among others?’’
Adebayo said the the PDP was determined to rescue the state “from backwardness and destruction which the Mimiko years have been”.
He added, “We know who tried to induce militants in Ondo State and failed. We know who imported hundreds of hoodlums from other states to terrorise the electorate. We know who sewed police uniforms and gave to miscreants to subvert and undermine security in the state ahead of election.
“We know who is distributing 30 bags of rice and N100,000 into each of all the 3,009 polling units in the state.
