Mimiko Campaign Organisation has alleged that former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Agagu is planning to implicate Labour Party leaders in fake cases to pave the way for the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory during the October 20 governorship election in the state.
The MCO is Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s campaign ahead of the poll. Mimiko is the LP’s candidate for the election.
The group, in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Media Relations, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, on Thursday alleged that Agagu “had perpetrated a lot of insurrections in the state”.
He alleged that the ex-governor intended to use policemen from the Force Headquarters, Abuja to arrest LP leaders on trumped-up charges.
Olabisi alleged that the development was part of the PDP’s plans to rig the election “after a meeting of top government officials in Abuja on Wednesday night”.
He listed some of those to be arrested as Segun Ayerin, who recently defected from the PDP to the LP; Mr. Ade Adeniyi, Yele Akinya, Mr Wale Ogunmade, who is the Caretaker Chairman in Okitipupa Local Government.
According to him, others are Ogunsakin Kolawole, Adekanbi Ayorinde, Olu, Jimoh Bello, Ogunwa Oboli, Dapo Iwala and Dr. Ikeemelo.
He stated that Agagu’s problem allegedly “stemmed from his pride and his refusal to accept defeat by Olusegun Mimiko, despite glaring evidence that his party, the PDP, cannot win the election”.
The spokesman added, “We are aware of all Agagu moves. Now that it has become crystal clear that his candidate would lose, he has embarked on this latest antic to rig, intimidate our people and get them arrested over trumped-up charges using the police.
“We are pleading with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubarkar, not to allow his men to be used by Agagu for his selfish ends.
“We also want to warn whoever wants to rig election in Ondo State of the dire consequences. Ondo people are politically savvy, they would not allow any impostor or a godfather dictate to them.President Goodluck Jonathan has consistently assured that the election will be on the basis of one man, one vote and will be free and fair. We so believe him.
But the Special Adviser on Media, Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, Mr. Kunle Adebayo, said “the LP members are just jittery because there was no iota of truth in the allegation”.
Adebayo said, “the LP government in Ondo State has been scared and afraid since the police authorities declared that the security reports they presented at the tribunal used in sacking him from office was falsified.
“Agagu as a person has the right to seek redress when his rights had been infringed upon. Why should someone presented eight different forged documents to get justice and would think the other party would keep quiet?”
