PDP: We Had Problems, and Have Learnt Our Lessons 4 years ago 37

The party also said that the National Secretary remains the Chief Accounting Officer and Chief Administrative Office of the party, while the National Chairman is at liberty to handle issues personally or through his aides in the management of the affairs of the party.

It was gathered that the resolution of this administrative lapses was as a result of several consultations between President Goodluck Jonathan with the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the National Secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

THISDAY gathered that the President was worried at the turn of the administrative lapses and therefore had to intervene to ensure the return of normalcy in the party.

It was as a result of this that the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh at a press conference said, “we admit there were administrative lapses within the party, just like any other political party or corporate organisation. The commotion of the last few days has made everyone to sit up and ensure that more than ever before that we are united. It will never happen again. We have learnt our lessons. We will not allow ourselves to be involved in such an administrative lapses.”
We have accepted that we were wrong”, Metuh said.

He further said, “There are no victor and no vanquished in the resolution of the administrative lapses.  We have only learnt our lessons, there was no need to sanction anybody”

On how the matter was resolved, he said, “ the National Secretary is the Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Accounting Officer of the party and an elected officer and the National Chairman is at liberty to handle issues personally or through his aides in the management of party affairs. We regret these administrative lapses”.

The National Secretary, Oyinlola and the Principal Secretary to the National Chairman, Habu Fari were at loggerhead over the functions of the national chairman and the national secretary with each other exchanging hot memoranda on their duties.
Oyinlola who fired the first salvo declared the office and duties of the Principal Secretary to the National Chairman as illegal, null and void, and the Principal Secretary countered in his response that he has the mandate and authority of Bamanga Tukur in all the duties, he has been performing.

On the camps within the party, the National Publicity Secretary said, “It is completely false that the party is divided because of the 2015 presidential election as reported by a newspaper (not THISDAY). It is true that the party sent a delegation of three officials of the National Working Committee (NWC) to go to South Africa to campaign for Hon. Bethel Amadi who contested and won election as the President of the Pan African Parliament.

“It is gross mischievous for anyone to say that we went to South Africa to campaign and plot a coup on how to remove President Goodluck Jonathan. The President remains the leader of the party and there is no division or camp within the National Working Committee (NWC).

“The NWC remains one and enjoys the support of the President and the Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo who are working to provide the dividends of democracy”, Metuh said.

As a sign of the resolution of the administrative lapses, the National Chairman and the National Secretary were seen at a public function at the national secretariat of the party. Home Page
