Nigerian group implicated in alleged UK NHS scam

Investigations by the Daily Express have uncovered how a Nigerian group assists pregnant Nigerian women with tips on how to avoid paying for treatment in the UK.

The newspaper reports that Nigerian families are paying up to £10,000 for the deals which include travel packages of flights, flats near UK hospitals, some fake documents, another person’s NHS number or a fake British passport.

The reports stated that despite government clampdown on the illegal trade, unpaid bills from health tourists are soaring.

It stated that one Manchester hospital was owed more than £500,000 from one case.

But the government is reportedly planning to recoup £500million a year by introducing new measures to stop the scandal of health tourism.

Blessing Olamide who had a recent experience in the NHS scam narrated her dealings with a fixer.

Olamide said her father decided to send her to Britain to get treatment when she fell pregnant in Nigeria earlier this year.

She stated that a fixer offered a space in a flat near Barts and tips on how to answer queries from NHS managers as well as the fake documents for £8,000.

The fixer also promised a fake electricity bill with a London address as well as a forged British driving licence.

But when her father’s driver realised that the fixer’s boss was a member of the Black Axe cult, the family backed out of the deal.

She reportedly suffered a miscarriage and lost her baby afterwards.

Meanwhile, the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, is set to dig it out with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the nation reports.

The face-off between the governor and the group, Legit.ng gathers, followed reports linking the governor to the recent hoax over a military vaccination and outreach for the monkeypox outbreak.

It was gathered that the duo were accused of fueling the panic caused by the vaccination rumour.

Sources said reprisal attacks were expected from member of the IPOB following the military operation: Operation Python Dance in the southeast region.
