Opposition members in the National Assembly were yesterday furious when the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, acknowledged the presence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, at the presentation of the 2013 budget.
Tukur, who was among those who accompanied President Goodluck Jonathan to the joint session of the National Assembly for the presentation of the budget, sat beside Vice President Namadi Sambo.
The uproar started when Tambuwal, in his vote of thanks, recognised Tukur’s presence and many of the opposition legislators from both chambers rose up, shouting “nay, nay, nay.”
The joint session slightly turned rowdy when the PDP lawmakers stood up to halt their opposition counterparts’ protest.
In an apparent bid to avoid the episode, Jonathan and Senate President David Mark, earlier in their separate remarks, did not acknowledge Tukur’s presence.
