The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has released its school fees for the 2017/2018 academic year. The published school fees include the ones for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The new school fees published by the management board of the National Open University of Nigeria met with negative reactions from applicants and students because of the increment in the school fees. The Director of Lagos Study Centre, Dr. Olubiyi Adewale gave an explanation for the increment in the NOUN university school fees.

Here is an excerpt of his explanation: “One thing that should come into our mind as students and staff, is this. The first thing we need to iron out is that the increase in fees is just Seven thousand, five hundred Naira ONLY (7,500 Naira) across board. This amount is normally considered minimal to take care of the incoming e-facilitation platform, which the Senate tagged “iLearn”. Currently, more than 760,000 students have logged in to the iLearn portal and have mostly commended the initiative and the ideal behind such great platform. Likewise, having a fully functional portal like the “NOUN iLearn” is now a global standard for open universities. It is the student that will benefit overall in the long run”.
