- The senator representing the Bayelsa-East federal constituency in the upper legislative chamber, Ben Bruce, has asked Nigerians who don’t belong to his constituency to stop asking him questions about his allowance
- Bruce asked them to direct the question to their senators, stating that it was silly for them to be asking him such questions when he does not represent them
- The senator’s outburst may not be unconnected to recent increased criticism of the hefty allowances collected by Nigerian lawmakers
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (PDP-Bayelsa East), has lashed out at Nigerians, stating that it is silly for those who do not belong to his constituency to question what he earns.
In a post on his twitter handle, the senator exploded: “Except you are my constituent, it is silly for anyone to have a problem with the Senate’s salaries and come to me.
“Go to your own senator!”
NAIJ.com does not know why Bruce chose to lash out in such a manner; but it may have something to do with the recent increased criticisms of lawmaker’s hefty allowances by various Nigerians.
In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, once again accused Nigerian senators of getting overpaid.
Sagay said the senators are wrecking the country's economy with their unnecessary allowances.
He condemned the clothing allowances being paid to the senators and queried the importance of such frivolous spending.
