Fourteen residents of three villages in Riyom local government area of Plateau State have been killed by unknown gunmen.
Sources told Daily Trust yesterday that those killed in the attack include five children, four women and four men. Eight of the victims were said to have met their death in Ranchol, four in Daliam and two in Lo-Ton.
But Plateau State Police Command put the number of the dead at six. The Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Emmanuel Abuh, said the six people were killed in two villages in Riyom local government area of the state.
“On the 9th of October 2010, at 19.30 hours, Dalyop Mwanshon and Gyang Mwanshon of the same parents were, on their way from Tarsheck to Jol, shot dead by unknown gunmen who laid ambush. In a similar incident, a 70 year-old woman, Chueung Manpap and her three children in their house were shot dead by unknown gunmen at Sara in Kwaki village of Riyom”, he said.
He also said a house was burnt by the gunmen, saying no arrest had been made but officers and men of the police force had already been deployed to the affected areas to curtail reprisal attacks.
