The Manager of the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Lawal, said yesterday that more than 14,346 intending pilgrims had been airlifted to Saudi Arabia for this year’s hajj.
Lawal told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto that the operation was carried out in 28 flights. He said that 4,927 of the intending pilgrims were from Sokoto State, 4,239 from Zamfara State and 5,180 from Kebbi State.
Abubakar expressed optimism that additional 3,500 intending pilgrims from the three states in the zone would be transported before the close of the exercise.
A total of 17,846 intending pilgrims are expected to be transported through the airport. He commended the management of Kabo Air and Max Air Airlines for ensuring a hitch-free exercise.
