Danjuma, Abdulsalami send message to Nigerian youths agitating for break-up

- Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar called on Nigerian youths to be united

- The former head of state said this is the only way development can come

- Danjuma also expressed support for the call for restructuring

Former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has sent a message to Nigerian youths calling on them to be united in order for Nigeria to be developed.

The Sun reports that Abdulsalami spoke at the official launch of Emeka Anyaoku’s Institute of International Studies and Diplomacy, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state on Wednesday, October 4.

The former head of state called on youths to build on the legacies of the founding fathers so that the country does not break up.

He said: “We must allow peace to reign without which development would be impossible. Altogether, there is strength in diversity. All hands must be on deck to make our great Nigeria greater.”

Gen. Theophilus Danjuma who was also at the event expressed his support for the call for restructuring. He however posited that this must be pursued without violence.

Gen. Ike Nwachukwu also agreed that the call for restructuring must be pursued without violence.

He called on the youths not to allow the country disintegrate reminding all that Nigeria has fought a bitter war in the past.

Anyaoku in his address appreciated the university for conferring him with the award in his lifetime.

He said: “I am glad that Nnamdi Azikiwe University has provided the opportunity for me to deposit personal papers and books I have written.”

Meanwhile, a non-governmental organization, Alimosho Youth Development Association of Nigeria (AYDAN), wrote an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on how the problems plaguing the country would be solved.

In an article sent to NAIJ.com, the president of the group, Comrade Ogungbade Olawale Lateef, congratulated President Buhari on the 57th Independence anniversary celebration, urging that all political office holders in the country should emulate the late heroes that fought for the country’s independence by making life meaningful to others.
