The lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has given reasons why he filed a suit against the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, on behalf of his client.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor in an interview with Sahara Reporters said the Nigerian military had the last contact with his client on September 14, when soldiers invaded Kanu's residence in Afara Ukwu, Umuahia.

Ejiofor during the interview said his client had informed him on phone that he was in his bedroom when the military attacked.

He said he is yet to communicate with his client since the military invasion as he might have either being killed or taken away from his bedroom by the soldiers.

"Before they gained access into his house, he called me on phone to say they (the military) had gained access to his place and that there were gunshots going on around his father's house then.

"I had to also issue a statement to that effect. Thereafter, I ceased to have any communication with him until date; I have not heard from him.

"I have also taken steps to file a formal application before the Federal High Court Abuja to compel the military to produce him in court because, it is obvious they had the last contact with him on that September 14, wherein they killed about 28 persons in his premises and shot about 48, wounded many. And they also took away some corpse.

"They made last contact with my client by virtue of which they (the military )are in the position to produce him in court.

"They went to his bedroom and he was in his bedroom when he called me last, when he called me before they gained entrance to his house, he called me and he told me he was in the bedroom.

"And I told him to remain calm that I'll have to alert the public, so I made some contacts, called some human rights organizations to inform them about what was going on in my client's house. Afterwards, I didn't hear from him again," Ejiofor said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Ejiofor said his client is undergoing political trial.

Ejiofor alleged that the federal government was constantly making efforts to stall the trial of his client at the Federal High Court.

The lawyer also denied claims that the IPOB leader had flouted the bail conditions granted him by the Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
