Suspension: Abdulmumin Jibrin must apologize - House of Reps insists
- The House of Representatives has insisted that suspensed former chairman of its appropriations committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, must tender an apology to lawmakers, before he would be taken back
- The House, through Hon. Abdulrazaq Namdas, stated that in addition to this, there are other conditions that must be met by Jibrin, when his 180-day suspension period expires
- However, Jibrin faulted the position of the House, as he stated that his constituents had been deprived of representation for one year
The House of Representatives has insisted that before he would be re-admitted into the House, suspended former chairman of its appropriations committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, must apologize to the lower legislative chamber, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the House’s position was made public by Abdulrazaq Namdas, chairman, committee on media and public affairs, at a weekly media session.

Namdas noted that Jibrin, who was suspended for 180 days at the end of the 2016 legislative year, was yet to complete his suspension period.
He stated that after the completion of the suspension, the former committee chairman must formally notify the house and meet other conditions listed by the Ethics and Privileges Committee.
He stated: “I have also asked the Ethics and Privileges Committee Chairman about the issue and he said the 180 days suspension is not over.
“Jibrin will also have to notify the House.
“He will write an apology letter too. You know there are other conditions he will have to meet to complete the procedure.”
In response however, Jibrin stated on his Twitter handle: “One year today of denying my constituents’ representation in the House and one year taken off my four years constitutional mandate, only in Nigeria.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman of the appropriation committee, was suspended by the Federal House of Representatives for 180 legislative days.
As the House of Reps only seats three days in a week, the suspension meant that Jibrin would be shut out from the lower legislative chamber for over a year.
