IPOB’s agitation is a misplacement of priorities - University Don

- Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji has described the agitation for a sovereign Biafran state by IPOB, as a misplacement of priorities

- The professor warned that Nnamdi Kanu’s methodology of animalising everyone who does not share his views will only achieve alienation for his group

- Adedimeji called on all agitators to embrace dialogue, as he noted that secession is not a precursor to the Eldorado that they are fantasizing about

The agitation for secession by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been described as a misplacement of priorities by Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji, director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (CPSS), University of Ilorin, Vanguard reports.

While speaking at a lecture to mark the 2017 UN International Day of Peace, Adedimeji likened the IPOB agitation to cutting off one’s head to cure a headache; as he noted that secession would not deliver to the pro-Biafra group, the Eldorado it seeks.

Legit.ng gathers that the professor warned the group that there would be greater problems after secession, which they won’t be able to cope with.

Adedimeji stressed that there was a need for all Nigerians to respect each other’s viewpoints and called on all agitating groups to embrace dialogue.

In his words: “There is an overarching message of the Peace Day that we need to internalize.

“The message is the need to work together as one people regardless of our ethnic, religious, political or ideological differences.

“We are united by a single humanity and we are united by being Nigerians.

"The Almighty Allah who brought us together could not have committed an error, he is all-perfect.

“Therefore, the agitation for secession and the hullabaloo that it is generating are borne out of misplacement of priorities.

“Apart from secession not being a precursor to the Eldorado that some people are fantasizing about, (if so, the war ravaged South Sudan would have been the happiest country in the world) the wrong methodology of animalizing everyone who does not share the main protagonist’s views will achieve alienation as pro Biafra agitators are now realizing.”
