Nigerians have the moral duty to be their brothers keeper - Ethnic groups

Leaders of various groups and ethnic nationalities across Nigeria held a meeting on Thursday, September 21, in Abuja due to the recent happenings in the polity fueled by agitations.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting and seen by Legit.ng restated the groups commitment to a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
At the meeting were leaders of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Ohaneze Youths Council Worldwide (OYC), Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC), Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) and a host of other groups.

After extensive deliberation and review of events and security situations in the country, the groups reiterated that all citizens of Nigeria are free to live peacefully in any part of the country and their rights are guaranteed.
They advised that all Nigerians have the moral duty to be their brothers keeper in all parts and affairs anywhere in Nigeria.
Other resolutions are:
- The reassurance by Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) to the Igbo and other ethnic groups resident in the Northern part of Nigeria of the safety of their lives and property, and the guarantee that they reserve the right to pursue their legitimate businesses and livelihood without fear.
- The Ohaneze Youth Council Worldwide also reassures all Northerners and members of other ethnic nationalities resident in the East to go about doing their businesses without any fear as the safety of their lives and properties is guaranteed.
The groups also reiterated the need for all Nigerians to exercise restrain from communication or aberrations that could affect the collective resolve of the majority of Nigerians to maintain a united, peaceful and prosperous country.
They also reassured Nigerians of their unwavering commitment to forge a country that works for everyone irrespective of ethnic, regional or confessional affiliations.
They further promised Nigerians that they will discuss a framework for the future in which every citizen will live in peace where his or her rights are protected, opportunities enhanced and future secured.
Legit.ng gathered that a summit for the deliberations is already scheduled for October, 2017.
The leaders who signed the communique are N. A. Shariff of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Mazi O. Isiguzoro of the Ohaneze Youths Council Worldwide, Prince Dapo Adepoju of the Yoruba Youth Congress (YYC), Barrister Oweilaemi Peretubo of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and Comrade Israel Uwejeyan of the Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC).
Others are Mike Msuaan of the Tiv Youth Congress (TYC), Imoh Stephen Okoko of the Ibibio Youth Council (IYC), Yerima Shettima of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Ogbebor Emmanuel of the Urhobo Youth Forum (UYF) and Idoko Ben O. of the Olohi-wole Idoma National Advancement.
Meanwhile, two socio-cultural organisations, Ndigbo Peace Movement and Arewa Groups stressed the need for peaceful co-existence of Nigerians irrespective of ethnic and religious inclinations.
The two groups made the call in Anambra in a joint news conference they held in Awka on Wednesday, September 20.
Divine Onyekachi, the leader of the Igbo movement who read the text of the conference said peace and unity of the country Nigeria was paramount and superior to any unlawful agitations.
