IPOB and Operation Python Dance: Mixed reactions from Nigerians

The news that the Nigerian military have begun what they called Operation Python Dance in the southeast has become a source of concern to Nigerians.

The reaction of the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group to this exercise has led to rising tension.

First a video of Nigerian soldiers allegedly torturing IPOB members went viral, leading to a lot of calls for both sanctions against the army and caution. Then a video of alleged IPOB members searching for Hausa people led to fears that this could turn into ethnic warfare.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti has condemned the ongoing Operation Python Dance being carried out by the army in the south east.

There has been growing tension in the region over the operation with several reports of clashes between soldiers and members of IPOB.

The Ekiti governor in a series of tweets said the government should have allowed governors in the south east to address the issue with Nnamdi Kanu instead of deploying military men to the region.
