VIDEO: Policemen in Akure brutalise a boy who questioned why a MOPOL jumped ATM queue

- Suspected policemen have brutalised a man in Akure, Ondo state capital

- The young man was beaten because he questioned a police officer for jumping an ATM queue

An unidentified man was brutalised on Friday, September 1, by a policeman and his accomplices in Akure, the capital of Ondo state for questioning the officer who jumped an ATM queue.

In the video which was posted by Instablog9ja, the man was beaten and dragged away by a uniformed mobile policeman and other men suspected to be his colleagues, not in uniform.

The accompanying words to the video read: "A fight just happened in akure, ATM stand. The mobile police couldn't wait so he wanted to chance the man at the ATM stand.

"So the young man didnt allow him. It turned to a serious argument that the mobile police had to slap him and the young man wanted to fight back.

"In few seconds, some other men came (not in uniform) and helped him in fighting the man back.

A trader there could be heard lamenting her wares which was probably closed to the scene of the fight," it read.

A gunshot was released by an identified person before the young man was led away by the police.

But when contacted, Mr. Femi JosephPolice, the Public Relations Officer of the command, said he was not aware of the incident.

He also urged the victim to report the matter at the station to enable the command conduct a proper investigation, Punch reports.

He said: "We don’t tolerate indiscipline in this command, I have not watched the video and I will try and watch it.

” But I want to appeal to the victim to come and report formally. However, we shall investigate the matter and take appropriate action against any officer involved.”

A trader who witnessed the incident said that the matter happened on Friday, Wednesday, August 1. He narrated that there were five men on the victim.

"We just saw the policemen fighting one man, we didn’t know what actually caused the fight but they beat the man mercilessly.

” When some people were trying to separate them, one of them (policemen ) fired a shot into the air to disperse everybody, it was after that that they took the man away,” the trader said.

Legit.ng had reported that a young lady took to social media to recount how she was almost crushed to death because of a policeman, somewhere in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The slogan 'police is your friend' does not exactly read true in this case, as a young lady was almost killed due to police harassment.
