In an ex-parte application filed before Justice Chuka Obiozor, the EFCC stated that the money was included in the $153,310,000 which was looted in 2014 from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) coffers, by the former minister.

Arguing its case before the judge, the commission stated that part of the money had been recovered last year by the federal government, via an order which was granted by another judge, Muslim Hassan.

According to the EFCC, the money was hidden in three banks.

The commission then appealed to the court to order Sterling Bank to release the remaining money to the government.

The presiding judge granted the request, issuing a permanent order for the funds to be seized by the federal government.

This latest development comes after Justice Obiozor initially granted an interim order for the forfeiture of the funds.
