Police arrest, parade 26 alleged vicious kidnappers close to Abuja

- The 26 suspects were members of five different gangs of kidnappers terrorising parts of the north

- The suspects reportedly fled the Kaduna- Abuja highway when the police came after them

- The Inspector-General of Police asked his men to rid the country of crimes

The Nigeria Police Force has paraded five suspected gangs of kidnappers made of a total of 26 members that terrorized Suleja and its environs in the northern part of Nigeria.

Some of the suspects were identified as 34-year-old Isah Umar, who is said to be the gang leader; 32-year-old Abubakar Muhammed; 33-year-old Baje Sari; 34-year-old Sanusi Adamu; and 32-year-old Nuhu Yahaya, who is believed to be their driver.

Jimoh Moshood, the force public relations officer, revealed that the suspects were arrested by a special operation mandated to clear the Abuja-Kaduna Highway to cover Suleja-Lambata, Minna and Bida Roads with effect from August, 14 2017.

It was learnt that some of the kidnappers escaped arrest on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

“In the operation that is still ongoing, five different vicious and notorious kidnap-for-ransom gangs were dislodged and busted in their hideouts along Suleja-Lambata-Bida and Minna roads in Niger state.

“A total number of 26 suspected kidnappers were arrested in the operation. They all confessed to the offence and admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime.

“The arms and ammunition listed above and other properties belonging to some of their victims who were rescued from the gang were recovered from them.

“Most of the suspects were identified by the victims for being responsible for their kidnap. Investigation is being intensified to arrest the other suspects at large.

“All the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of Investigation.”

Legit.ng further learnt that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed top officers of the force to carry out massive deployment against crimes in their various domains.

He thanked the police officers who carried out the arrest of the alleged kidnappers.

The police say they recovered three AK47 riffles, four single-barrel guns, two cut-to-size guns, one locally-made revolver, one locally made pistol, a set of military uniforms and rain coats, charms and other items.

Legit.ng recently reported that the Benue state police command revealed that a key member of popular notorious and wanted criminal in the state has been shot dead by its operatives.

The gang leader Ghana who is believed to be a member of the dreaded Terwase Akwaza group and his gang members are said to have been terrorizing Benue state and environs for quite some time now.
