Grace Mugabe flies to Zimbabwe after being granted diplomatic immunity despite assault claims

South Africa has granted Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe, diplomatic immunity despite allegations of assault against her.
The 52-year-old first lady was therefore free to leave South Africa without answering allegations by a 20-year-old South African model who claimed she assaulted her.
Mrs Mugabe reportedly flew back to Zimbabwe alongside her husband President Robert Mugabe, on Sunday, August 20.
South African International Relations minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, published the decision in a Government Gazette on Sunday.
She wrote: "I hereby recognise the immunities and privileges of the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr Grace Mugabe."

Willie Spies, a lawyer representing the model Gabriella Engels, told the BBC that they will challenge the decision in court because Mrs Mugabe was in South Africa on private business. This therefore disqualifies her from the privilege, he argued.

Engels claims Mrs Mugabe assaulted her last weekend in a Johannesburg hotel using an electrical extension cord. She required several stitches on the cuts she received as a result.
