- The Charly Boy group has cancelled its planned procession to the Presidential Villa
- The group said the procession was cancelled to avoid a clash with a pro-Buhari group marching to the Villa on Wednesday, August 16
- The group however said its events scheduled for different days in Lagos, London and New York will hold as planned
The leaders of the Our Mumu Don Do protest on Wednesday, August 16, cancelled a proposed march to the Presidential Villa from the popular Unity Fountain for fear of clash with a pro-Buhari group.
The group led by popular musician and former television presenter, Charles 'Charly Boy' Oputa, said it will not continue with its march to the Presidential Villa as scheduled.
Speaking to NAIJ.com, Deji Adeyanju, the convener of the Concerned Nigerians, a civil society organization, said: "It would not be wise for us to march to the Villa as planned.
"We cancelled the march because we understand that this other group will be going there.
"If we decide to march there, there might be a clash."
Adeyanju however, said that the candle light vigil and march at the Abuja House in London and Lagos and New York respectively, will still hold as scheduled. The daily sit-out will also continue at the Unity Fountain everyday until the president 'honourably does the needful'
The group had earlier announced that it will conduct a peaceful procession from the Unity Fountain to the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, August 16, at 8.30 am in Abuja.
The #ResumeOrResign protesters also said a peaceful procession will be conducted at the Gani Fawehinmi Park (Freedom Park) in Lagos and in front of the Nigerian Consulate, 828 Second Avenue, New York on Wednesday, August 16, by 8.30 am.
But arriving at the Unity Fountain it was observed that a third group, the Niger Delta in Total Support for President Buhari were present at the venue.
The convener of the NDTSPB, Michael Jonny, who spoke to NAIJ.com said the group was at the Unity Fountain to march in total support of the Buhari-led administration.
Jonny said the NDTSPB have also converged to pass a vote of confidence on the president.
He said contrary to the claims by the anti-Buhari group, the president did the needful before embarking on his medical treatment in London.
Jonny said: "There is not problem with what Buhari has done, we are here to pass a vote of confidence on Buhari.
"He fully transmitted power to Yemi Osinbajo who is the Acting President of Nigeria. And from all we have gathered the anti-Buhari group calling for the resumption or resignation of President Buhari are being instigated by the opposition party.
"At least, if not anything else, we have seen a transparent government through the leadership of President Buhari in Nigeria.
"All we want as a group is the peace and unity of Nigeria and all Nigerians rather that the disruption caused by the anti-government people."
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the group were at the famous Unity Fountain to protest the activities of the anti-Buhari group.
The group in their score flooded the Unity Fountain with their banners and various placrads which read: "Sickness is not a crime, PDP stop! Anti-Buhari protest, Buhari was only sick not corrupt" among many others.
