Biafra ministers' appointment: Soludo, Utomi, Gana, others placed under surveillance watch by DSS

- Some prominent Nigerians named as cabinet members by a secessionist organisation, Biafra Zionist Federation (BZF), have been placed under watch by the DSS

- The federal government is wondering why none of the 'appointed ministers' had reacted more than 72 hours after their names were announced by the secessionist group

- A source said the DSS is giving them more time to respond and if they do not, the law would have to take its course

Report has it that the Department of State Services (DSS) is planning to invite three ex-ministers and some prominent Nigerians for questioning following their announcement as cabinet members in an interim government for the Republic of Biafra.

The Nation reports that the federal government was worried that after a secessionist organisation, Biafra Zionist Federation (BZF) announced them as cabinet members, they have not disowned the group more than 72 hours after.

Legit.ng earlier reported that BZF announced the split of south east from Nigeria by announcing an interim ‎government to run the affairs of Biafra.

The group listed members of the cabinet to include Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as governor of the Central Bank of Biafra (CBB), Prof. Pat Utomi as foreign affairs minister, Mrs. Aruma Oteh as finance minister and former Personal Secretary to Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu as petroleum.

Others listed as members of the cabinet were former minister of power, Prof Barth Nnaji; former minister of information, Prof Jerry Gana and another former information minister, Labaran Maku.

A top intelligence source, who spoke in confidence said respected citizens such as these had a duty to themselves and to the nation to denounce any association with such secessionist group.

In this particular instance, we are worried about the deafening silence on the part of these respected citizens. What do they lose by renouncing their listing by the secessionists?” the source queried.

According to the source, they would be given more time to respond and if they fail to, the DSS reserved the right to assume that they had something to do with the group which could lead to the law taking its course.

Report has it that the BZF had been placed under surveillance by the DSS and other intelligence agencies.

Reacting to his inclusion the Republic of Biafra cabinet, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology, Hon. Beni Lar, said he was in support of one Nigeria.

He dissociated himself from any such secessionist move.

In an earlier report by Legit.ng, Labaran Maku, Nigeria’s former minister of information vehemently denied knowing the pro-Biafran group, Biafra Zionist Federation, and turned down its ministerial offer.

Maku who had been named as aviation minister by the group for its self-declared Republic of Biafra, stressed that he remains committed to Nigeria’s unity.

He noted that he could not have been offered a ministerial slot by the group because he belongs to APGA; a national party, and he comes from Nassarawa state.
