The FCT Command of the State Security Service, SSS, yesterday paraded a former staff of the FCT education department, Mohammed Ayuba, for alleged impersonation and defrauding of three persons of N156, 000.
The suspect posed as an SSS officer to one David Barde and promised to secure employment into the service for three of Barde’s relations.
He thereafter requested for N53,000 from each prospective candidate which was paid to him in Gwagwalada by Barde.
Deputy Director, Operations,Ibrahim Halilu, who paraded the suspect, said Ayuba was arrested while trying to collect additional money for other candidates he promised employment with the service.
“Members of the public are advised not to allow themselves to be deceived and defrauded; the SSS has never commissioned anybody or organization to interview and recruit applicants on its behalf. It
does not also issue application forms to applicants whenever it wants to embark on recruitment exercise. Ayuba and his likes are fraudsters who should be avoided and reported to security agencies,” he said.
The suspect in an interview admitted that he defrauded Barde, adding that he did it because he has no means of livelihood.
Ayuba told journalists how he got into the act,”I was a staff of the FCT education department but I was disengaged in 2007 during the national retrenchment exercise and I don’t have any means of livelihood since then. I am into farming. I am sorry for defrauding Barde, I promise not to do it anymore,”.
