Badoo member invades Lagos school, attempts to kidnap pupils

- Armed with the Badoo insignia, the alleged cult member invaded the school in Mushin in an attempt to abduct pupils

- Fred Minima was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution

It was a lucky escape pupils of a nursery school in the Mushin area of Lagos state as an 18-year-old man, believed to be a member of the Badoo cult invaded the learning environment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Fred Minima, the suspect, armed with the logo of the cult on his left hand, allegedly entered the premises of the nursery and primary school with the intention to kidnap some pupils.

Legit.ng learnt that he allegedly stole some phones before he proceeded to attract the pupils.

He was however caught by the security guard in the school and handed him over to the police.

The report said Minima, who resides at Akala area of Mushin, was charged before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday, July 31 for allegedly belonging to a forbidden cult group, Badoo.

He is facing three counts of attempted kidnap, belonging to an unlawful society and stealing, but pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The police prosecutor, Maria Dauda, insisted that the accused committed the offences on July 26 at 11:10 am at Number 25, Akinola Street, Mushin.

It was reported that the offences contravened sections 21, 42 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Section 287 stipulates three-year jail term for offenders, while kidnapping offences in Lagos state attract a penalty of life imprisonment or capital punishment.

The magistrate, Mrs OOA Fowowe-Erusiafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until August 29 for mention.

Legit.ng earlier reported that in its efforts to get rid of the Badoo gang, a notorious ritual sect, terrorising the Ikorodu area of Lagos and its environs, the state police command on Monday July 31, uncovered the group shrine.

The report said while acting on a tip off, the policemen stormed the shrine, located at the outskirts of Ikorodu town, adding that it was not certain if any arrest was also made.
