Osinbajo orders Buratai, Olonishakin to relocate to Borno over Boko Haram attacks

Angered by the recent spate of attacks by Boko Haram insurgents, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has ordered two service chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

Osinbajo ordered Tukur Buratai, chief of Army staff, and Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air staff, to relocate to Maiduguri, Borno state capital, with immediate effect, according to a report by Vanguard.

Legit.ng learnt that Osinbajo gave the directive after an emergency meeting with some service chiefs on Thursday, July 27.

According to Osinbajo, there is need for the two service chiefs to be at the military command control centre in Maiduguri which had witnessed an upsurge in Boko Haram attacks.

Mansur Dan-Ali, minister of defence, who spoke about the meeting, said: “We just finished a meeting with the acting president and the three service chiefs.

“We agreed that they should move back to the command centre again and see what are the things happening there.

“We have also agreed that we should get more surveillance devices, cameras that will be able to see distant attackers coming to the position of our troops.

“Also, the period of the raining season is a difficult moment for us.

“We cannot dominate the environment like what we do during the dry season but efforts are geared towards regaining our areas. All these ambushes that are happening would be stopped.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian government had halted oil exploration activities in the Lake Chad Basin, north-eastern part of the country after an attack on explorers by the Boko Haram terrorists.

The attack, according to reports, lead to the death of at least 27 people and the abduction of some others.
