Constitutional Amendment: Following Senate, House of Rep votes to grant members immunity, grant autonomy for LG

- The House of Representatives have embarked on a comprehensive amendment to Nigerian constitution

- The lawmakers have approved autonomy for local governments amongst other major amendments to the constitution

- Legislators have also been given immunity in the course of carrying out their duties

- The lawmakers also restricted tenures of president, governors who came to power as a result of death to their predecessors to one tenure in office

Like the Nigerian Senate, the Federal House of Representatives have voted to amend Nigerian constitution. The House of Reps also voted to grant autonomy to local governments.

Legit.ng had reported that Nigeria's eight Senate voted Yesterday July 26 on 33 major amendments to the Nigerian constitution.

They voted to give financial autonomy for local governments. About 95 senators are present for the Wednesday’s session.
