For stopping Boko Haram, Nigerian army promotes 6,199 soldiers on warfront in Borno

- 6,199 soldiers battling Boko Haram have been promoted

- The promoted soldiers are serving in Operation LAFIYA DOLE to various ranks between Lance Corporals to Warrant Officers

- They were encouraged to put more effort in the ongoing clearance operations of the Boko Haram terrorists

The Nigerian army has promoted 6,199 soldiers who are currently engaging the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state.

The soldiers were promoted over their gallant efforts in neutralising the insurgents who have held the country to ransom through bombing and wanton killings.

In a statement obtained by Legit.ng, brigadier general Sani Kukasheka Usman, director army public relations said the chief of army staff, general TY Buratai has approved the promotion of the gallant officers.

The statement read: "The chief of army staff (COAS), Lieutenant General TY Buratai, has today Tuesday 25th July 2017, approved the special promotion of 6,199 soldiers serving in Operation LAFIYA DOLE to various ranks between Lance Corporals to Warrant Officers in the Nigerian Army.

The breakdown of the beneficiaries of the special promotion are as follows:

1. Staff Sergeants - Warrant Officers –329.

2. Sergeants – Staff Sergeants –371.

3. Corporals – Sergeants –707.

4. Lance Corporals – Corporals –1,290.

5. Privates – Lance Corporals –3,502.

Total 6,199.

"The COAS congratulates the beneficiaries and urged them to increase the tempo of the ongoing clearance operations of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.

"You are please requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

Legit.ng had reported that the Nigerian army has promoted a total of 468 lieutenants to captain a report by Premium Times has reported. The report quoted an Army circular as showing that the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, promoted the officers on July 19, 2017 after the Nigerian Army Council approved their elevation.

Legit.ng learnt that the promotions for some of the officers would take effect from June 2016 while the others would begin to enjoy their promotion from November 2017.
