Reason for Fayose's absence, 4 other things to know about visit to Buhari

On Tuesday, July 25, 7 governors were selected to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Wednesday, July 26.

Legit.ng reported that the governors will depart the country on Tuesday, July 25 and will meet with Buhari by 3pm on Wednesday.

Below are some facts to know about the visit to President Buhari.

1. Fayose's absence

Explaining why Ekiti state governor was not among those selected, the presidency exonerated itself from the selection of the seven governors that were chosen to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in London, saying that the selection was handled by the governors forum.

2. Absence of media and journalists in delegation

The presidency also said that the non inclusion of the media team especially television or newspapers could be to save money.

3. Date of Buhari's return

The media team of the presidency has said that it is only the medical team of President Buhari who have been with him since May 7 that can determine when the President would return to Nigeria.

4. Timing of the visit

Femi Adesina explained the reason for the visit against the backdrop that it had been reported that President Buhari was recuperating, he said it was the best time for the president to receive visitors as he was recovering.

5. What was discussed at the meeting?

The president's media aide spoke on what was being discussed both at the earlier meetings and the just concluded ones about the Niger Delta agreements and Osinbajo:

“Next week there is going to be a follow up meeting between the Acting President and the PANDEF.

“You will recalled that last November the President has held a meeting with the leaders of PANDEF where issues of Niger Delta development was discussed in which the Acting President embarked on the visit to the states of the Niger Delta.

"And since then the president asked that an inter-ministerial committee be composed led by the Vice President to look at all the issues, specifically using the PANDEF demand as the take off point."

At the first meeting, Legit.ng gathered that the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, said the president was very cheerful and has not lost any bit of his sense of humour.

In a telephone conversation with Femi Adesina, the president's media adviser, following the meeting of the APC governors and leaders with President Buhari, he said the president was delighted to receive the delegation and asked each governor about affairs in his state.

Governor Okorocha said the party delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch, and it was very clear from the discussions that he followed developments at home very closely.
