Mass defection hits Lagos PDP, LP, others ahead of Saturday local govt election

- Some members of PDP, LP and AD have defected to APC ahead of Saturday July 22 LG election in Lagos

- LASIEC had slated Saturday July 22 for the local government election in the state

- The defectors pledged to mobilize for the victory of APC and support the APC candidates across the state

Less than 24 hours to the conduct of Local Government elections in Lagos state, Saturday July 22, 20176, many of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and Alliance for Democracy (AD), members have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vanguard reports that the mammoth members and supporters from other parties who decamped to APC barely three days ago, pledged to mobilize for the victory of APC and support the APC candidate in Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area, Augustine Adeoye Arogun that received them to the party on behalf of the chairman of the party Otunba Henry Ajomale.

Legit.ng gathered that to consolidate its winning edge over other parties in the polls, groups under the aegis of De-Fash Movement (DFM), Awori Vanguard (AV), Lagosians Future Group (LFG), Asiwaju National Forum (ANF) among others have intensified house to house campaign all over the state to drum support for APC candidates.

The groups have placed the mobilizing team to move around the nook and cranny of the state, soliciting for support of the electorate for APC candidates.

Commenting on the mass defection of members to APC, the group leader, Mr. Seyi Bamigbade who led a grassroots campaign during the House to House flagged off at their secretariat in Lagos, said the confusion and crisis rocking other parties made the members to join their party.

“Party like PDP, a faction of the party has gone to join Labour Party before the Supreme Court ruling. Their members are confused, so they have no option than to decamp to APC,” he said.

Bamigbade who commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his efforts in making life easy for the residents of the state, added that PDP will not win any of the councils because of the excellent performance of the governor.

APC extends hands of fellowship Meantime, the leadership of the APC Lagos State has appealed to its committed and loyal members to vote massively for the party on Saturday July 22 2017, irrespective of misgivings, altercations and misunderstandings not unconnected with the party candidates in areas like Shomolu, Amuwo Odofin, Yaba , Orile Agege, Odi-Olowo, Mushin, LGAs and LCDAs.

Some APC members had earlier expressed their misgiving over what they called “imposition” of candidates that are not popular for the election, demanding for redress or ensure down fall of the party during the polls.

A statement, yesterday, by the state’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, reads: “His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has made a passionate appeal to the aggrieved members to bury the hatchet and go ahead to work for the party.

“Consequently, the leadership of the party in the State is joining our hardworking and energetic Governor appeal for calm and understanding. May we never allow Lagos to fall into the hands of the unserious people.

“If out of annoyance you throw your cap away an enemy or madman will pick it and use it forever.This is your Party. “It belongs to you. Hold it to your bosom, cherish and treasure it. There is what pundits call the Principle of Delayed Gratification.

"It means that those who work hard without looking back or being plodded will be remembered and rewarded in the fullness of time. “No honest seeking goes without a reward. Thanks a trillion for working for APC. We are very proud of you.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George expressed confidence that the party’s strategic alliance with the Labour Party in the forth coming council polls would produce good results.
