We do not want to be part of Biafra - Ijaw Youth Council

- The Ijaw people have been added to the Biafra map by IPOB members

- However, the people insist they are not interest in the agitation

- Barrister Eric Omare noted that their agitation predates their Biafra own

Barrister Eric Omare who is the president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has declared that the region is not interested in being part of Biafra as their own agitation precedes theirs.

Vanguard reports that Omare said the Ijaw people would rather focus on pursuing self-determination started by their revolutionary leader, late Major Isaac Adaka Boro.

H said this would be achieved by bringing all the Ijaw people in the country under one political structure.

He noted that even before the Igbo people started their Biafra agitation, the Ijaw people have had their own form of self-determination which would not make them join the latter.

He said: “Self-determination may mean many things to different people. But to us the Ijaw people, self-actualization means having a political space where we will have total control of our resources and we will be able to govern ourselves”.

"The main crux of Ijaw nation’s struggle is to get political emancipation because my people are tired of begging the federal government for crumbs.”

Meanwhile, Chief Edwin Clark, the Ijaw national leader on Thursday, July 13, said that Nigerian unity was not negotiable.

He disclosed this in Yenagoa at the new Bayelsa state governor’s office commission, saying that after independence, the country chose federalism but which was distorted later by military coups

The Ijaw national leader said the military coups has led to the agitations in the country adding that at this point Nigeria must be restructured.
