Three people were, yesterday, killed at Raku village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State when gunmen opened fire on them, while they were returning from farm.
Two of the farmers died on the spot, while the third farmer sustained injuries. A passer-by was, however, killed in a reprisal attack by angry youths.
Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Abuh, confirmed the killings. He also confirmed that the third person was killed in a counter-attack by angry youths from the locality.
He said armed policemen have been deployed to the area, while a curfew has been imposed on the local government headquarters and environs from 8pm to 5am until further notice, to forestall further trouble.
Chairman, Management Committee of the local government, Mr. Emmanuel Loman, described the attack as unfortunate, coming at a time relative calm was returning to the area.
The attack is seen as a setback to the recent peace accord between the native Berom and the Fulani, who have been engaged in hostilities for some time.
